Learn about the lights on your speaker Google Nest Help

Pull the plug from the wall and wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Sometimes residual power can exist inside the device that keeps it from fully shutting off and this unplug/replug sequence isn’t as effective, so yeah, please wait. For a while, there was a known and annoying issue where Google Nest Mini would randomly disconnect from Bluetooth. It seems this software or firmware bug was eventually squashed, but your Nest Mini still might become disconnected from your phone or device. The most common cause is simply distance and walls; if you’ve gone too far from your Mini with your smartphone, or put walls between you, the connection can drop.

Although it does mean having to set the speaker up from scratch, performing a factory reset can sometimes be your only option. The methods above are guaranteed ways to factory reset your Google Home or Nest Mini. And in most cases, will help to get it working like new again. The Nest Mini has a setting that allows you to enable ultrasound sensing.

How to Factory Reset Google Home Mini

I was playing music on my mini, & everytime my dog would cause her collar to jingle, 2 outer lights on the mini would light up. These are not any of the 4 lights in the middle, they are way on the outside near the edge but inline with the 4 middle lights. I had no idea these lights existed & am super curious as to why dog tags jingling made them come on. The reset button is the only way to reset Google Home Mini. You can adjust the volume of alarm and timer in Google Home Mini and Google Home Max through Google Home app only. When Google Home Mini idles, all LED lights should be off except for disabled microphone.

When you factory reset your Google Home Mini, all of your settings and personal data will be wiped from the device. Typically, factory resets are only used before selling your Mini or if you have consistent issues.

Speakers & mics

Google Nest Mini delivers clean audio with punchy bass. You can use the equalizer to adjust the treble and bass. Sure, it’s a step up from your phone’s speakers, but not a match for a decent, dedicated Bluetooth speaker. For the Nest Mini, Google Nest doubled the bass and made it possible for the speaker to adjust its volume based on the level of background noise in the room. Although the Nest Mini only has three mics, it does a superior job at picking up voice commands, even from a distance.

When there are one or more reminders, 1 solid white LED light in the right side will stay on for about 10 minutes as shown below. When a timer rings, the 4 white LED lights will run slowly as shown below. When Google Assistant is responding, the white LED lights will pulse continuously as shown below. Because the middle part of touch control in Google Home Mini has been disabled, you have to use hotwords to access Google Assistant in Google Home Mini. In this case, you will find the white LED lights pulse slowly as shown below.

You can try to power off it, wait 1 min, then power it on. If you lost the power adapter, you need to get a new one. Very likely, Google Assistant picks up the hot word, but it failed to get your question. You can speak your question immediately after the hotword. You cannot use your Google Home Mini when you see the 2 red LED lights.

None of those features are any good if the device stops working. You can reboot your Mini, as detailed further down the page, but it doesn't always solve the problem. All my Minis both Google and Nest will occasionally have just the left light on bright white. I try to find out why, but can get no answer from the Mini or Home app. Just a minute ago I asked it “Why is your left light on? ”, and it told me about a town in Montana, I think, and that it was the only town who’s population had gone down between the last two census reports. When it finished the left light came back on and just went off on it’s own as I am typing this maybe ten minutes after the last activity. On others I have powered them off and after reboot the light comes back on.

Try moving it to a more quiet area and see if this helps as well. First, if you can’t hear music but it seems like it’s playing, check your volume. You can always say, “OK, Google, turn volume up,” or a similar command to see if the volume was accidentally turned down. On this note, you can also try different phrasing when asking for a specific music playlist just in case Google Assistant is having trouble understanding you. To wake it up, you say "OK, Google" or "Hey, Google," and then you give it a question or command.
